SCTP has been analysing the apprenticeship starts statistics published in recent weeks and sharing that analysis with Sussex MPs, Local Authorities and LEPs. The LAs and LEPs are concerned about the falling numbers of apprenticeship starts and wish to take action. In order to make progress it is important to use real examples of why starts are not happening in the same numbers as last year. What are the real barriers? We need some case studies. Is it the 20% off-the-job rule that is the main issue or the 10% contribution or a lack of suitable candidates? Does the picture vary significantly by sector?
