Metro Mayors Demand Control Over Unspent Levy Funds

The metro mayors overseeing skills budget devolution have joined forces to demand control of apprenticeship levy cash that employers fail to spend. This move follows the impending devolution of the AEB budget in 2019/20 and seeks to extend the power and control that devolved areas would have over skills policy and funding. It might be argued that there are alternative homes for levy underspend such as making sure that there is sufficient funding to support the non-levy market and to open up access. Although not directly impacting on Sussex yet it is worth watching the behaviour of and government response to, the first wave of devolution in areas like London to anticipate the future impact in our own area.
