The headlines from this week’s budget related to:
- National Minimum Wage for Apprentices to rise above inflation from £3.50 to £3.70 per hour and increases in other NMW levels.
- £8.5m to explore new maths resit approaches
- Extra £20m for colleges to prepare for ‘T’ Levels
A useful summary of other measures relating to Universal Credit and a National Retraining Scheme is provided by the Learning and Work Institute here. A more general sector response is here.
There are some doubts emerging as to whether much of the investment announced is actually new money but the focus on skills in the budget has been welcomed.
