Members of the local business and education communities gathered for a debate titled, ‘The Future of Work: Are We Doing Enough About Skills?’, The Big Debate, organised by Brighton & Hove Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by SCTP member, the University of Sussex was chaired by Richard Freeman and featured an expert panel of business owners, education leaders and futurists. They explored topics such as training for the jobs of the future, preparing young people for work, the opportunities and pitfalls of the gig economy, apprenticeships, the role of schools and universities, as well as looking at new ways of working and the role of technology. The conclusion was that we are not doing enough about skills but working together there was an opportunity to do so. With over 100 people in the room the Big Debate was a good start.
