Mental Health of Students Survey Results

by | 0 comments

A mental health survey conducted by the NUS for the All Party Parliamentary Group on Students with further and higher education students, has indicated a shocking level of stress and concern amongst students about their mental wellbeing. The survey revealed that more than three quarters (78%) of those surveyed said they had experienced mental health problems in that year, while more than a third (33%) had suicidal thoughts (compared with 17% for the wider population). Comment on this survey via FE news is here, with some recommendations of organisations such as Young MindsUniversities UK and Mind who have some useful resources and guidance for those working with young people.

A reminder also that SCTP has organised a Mental Health Wellbeing workshop on 5 October, run by Possability People, to give members’ staff some basic tools for dealing with learners who present with mental health issues.  Further information is here.
