The Office for Students (OfS) have published a report looking at degree apprenticeships providing an alternative route to a higher education qualification. The report shows that whilst numbers of degree apprenticeships are relatively low at present, this is expected to increase considerably. They point to degree apprenticeships having the potential to increase social mobility. The OfS state that they are working to build progression pathways from lower level apprenticeships and to remove barriers for underrepresented groups. They are also focusing on engaging with other regulators with the ‘aim of removing barriers posed by the complexity of arrangements for funding, regulation and the approval of new apprenticeship standards’. They have also produced an evaluation of the degree apprenticeship development fund.
