The Local Government Association (LGA), which represents councils in England and Wales, has reported that recent figures show more than 130 extra children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) are being supported by councils every day. The LGA is calling on the Government to launch a review of current SEND funding levels and to address the increase in demand for support in the upcoming spending review. The LGA estimates councils in England will be facing a SEND funding gap of up to £1.6 billion by 2021.
