Furlough – Does Your Apprenticeship Employer Need to Make an Employer Salary Contribution?

by | 0 comments

If your apprentice/employee does volunteer work or training, the guidance states that: “A furloughed employee can take part in volunteer work or training, as long as it does not provide services to or generate revenue for, or on behalf of your organisation. However, if workers are required to for example, complete online training courses whilst they are furloughed, then they must be paid at least the NLW/NMW for the time spent training, even if this is more than the 80% of their wage that will be subsidised.” Further guidance from the DfE is expected shortly. Contact covid19@sctp.org.uk for support. This is the latest guidance from the Treasury on the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.

The Treasury have said that colleges can access the Job Retention Scheme for staff who work in areas that are not primarily funded by the government and who cannot be redeployed. More on this can be read here.
