Over the last academic year the Sussex Learning Network’s Collaborative Outreach Programme has been delivering an identity based BAME Uni:School mentoring programme in 7 secondary schools across Sussex. The aim of the project is to improve BAME pupils’ school experience, give them a positive outlook and improve their opportunity to develop their full potential in life. A short video which captures the learners’ voices and provides a flavour of the project can be viewed here.
They are hosting a conference on 28 September from 08.30 – 12.30, followed by lunch, at Jury’s Inn in Brighton entitled “Understanding experiences of BAME students and how to create positive learning environments” for anyone who is interested in this work to share, celebrate and develop practice. It will have national and local speakers sharing their expertise and knowledge as well participants in the project who will also share best practice and develop ideas around this important inclusion issue. If you would like to attend, please contact them here.
