City and Guilds and NOCN have published a report entitled ‘Close the Gap‘, looking at how to reskill the UK, closing the gap on the UK’s competitors and to remain a world leading force for the 21st century. The report highlights a large number of key recommendations, including establishing a single, simple and agile integrated TVET system for all sectors and levels, based upon nationally agreed standards and curriculum; modularised qualifications and apprenticeships at all levels, enabling a workforce that can develop the specific skills they and their employer need, rather than having to carry out a long full-time course of study and increased investment, including for tutors, assessors and new equipment as well as streamlining of a more flexible and increased Levy. An introduction to the report can be read here and further comment and analysis here.
