The Children’s Commissioner for England, Anne Longfield, has called on the government to investigate the decline in percentage of pupils leaving school without reaching Level 2 attainment. Her report shows that in 2018 18% of school leavers left education at 18 without reaching Level 2, a 24% increase since 2015. The report also finds that attainment gaps between Special Educational Needs (SEN) and non-SEN pupils by age 19 have risen from 26% in 2015 to 33% in 2018, and the attainment gaps between children living in the least and most deprived areas of England has risen from 13% in 2015 to 17% in 2018.
