The Department for Education (DfE) is advising that Independent Learning Providers who are providing education and training to children of compulsory school age of more than 18 hours a week to 5 or more children, or one or more child with an EHC plan or who is ‘looked after’ by the Local Authority, now need to apply to become a ‘registered independent school’ or they need to cease their 14-16 provision. A copy of the letter from the DfE which has been sent to Local Authorities about this issue is here and the letter which the DfE is sending some training providers detailing what they need to do is here. There is more information about this in this week’s ESFA FE Update.
