The Government has announced the biggest ever increase to the National Living Wage is coming into effect from 1 April. It is increasing by almost 5% to £8.21 per hour (for those 25 and over). The National Minimum Wage is also increasing. The apprentice minimum wage rate rises to £3.90 from 1 April.

1 April also marks 20 years of the National Minimum Wage, and the Low Pay Commission have published a report on the history of the UK minimum wage and long-term effects of the National Minimum Wage and the National Living Wage, with new analysis of pay and employment data.

The ‘Calculating the minimum wage‘ guidance has also been updated with these new rates.
