Damian Hinds, Education Secretary, has launched a consultation which forms the first stage in the government’s review of post-16 level 3 and below qualifications (excluding T Levels, A Levels and GCSEs). The consultation will look at only providing public funding for qualifications that meet key criteria on quality, purpose, necessity and progression. It will also look at not providing public funding for qualifications for 16 to 19 year olds that overlap with T Levels or A Levels. More details on the announcement are here, with some sector comment here and here. The consultation will run for 12 weeks, closing on 10 June 2019. The second stage of the review will follow later in 2019.
