Apprenticeship Awards

Thank you to all of you that helped make this years awards a record success with 230 entries for the South East.  These are now being sifted and will be judged next week by the panel.  All winners will be notified and an email will be sent to all those that didn’t make it around the 5th May. The regional finalists will be invited to a lunchtime awards certificate presentation at the Berkshire College of Agriculture on 24th May, and will automatically go forward to the national awards ceremony in London on 29th June.

100 Apprentices in 100 Days Campaign Update

The ambition for the 100 in 100 campaigns is to challenge local businesses to generate 100 new Apprenticeship placements within a local area in 100 days.

We are working with training providers and partners to achieve this target.  Below is an update on the progress to date:-

Guildford 100

To date we have received 77 pledges and of these 17 places are filled. The campaign is due to finish on 13th May.

Isle of Wight 111

To date we have received 89 pledges and of these 14 places are filled.  A slightly different format with this campaign in that it will be 111 Apprentice places in 2011.  The campaign is due to finish in November.

Oxford 100

To date we have received 92 pledges and of these 12 places are filled.  The campaign is due to finish on 25th May.

Reading 100

To date we have received 114 pledges and of these 43 places are filled.  The campaign is due to finish on 21st May.

Southampton 100

To date we have received 132 pledges and of these 59 places are filled.  The Daily Echo has challenged local businesses to make it 200 pledges in 100 days as the campaign is due to finish on 24th May.

Swale year of the Apprentice

This campaign has been launched in Kent and is being managed by KATO.

Thank you to all the providers and stakeholders that are supporting these campaigns.

Provider Profiles

Following some analysis of provider delivery, we will be issuing each provider with a list of frameworks we are expecting to see advertised on Apprenticeship vacancies. Once you have received your list, please ensure your profiles are updated as soon as possible, including the overall success rates you achieved in 09/10. We will be working with the Skills Funding Agency Provider Services team to ensure that all the information is correct and up to date. It is essential that your information is correct to ensure you receive the relevant leads NAS are referring on a daily basis.

NAS Referrals

When NAS make referrals to providers, we are able to track what employers have requested to use Apprenticeship vacancies. Of the 942 employers referred to providers which requested to use the system, and have been won, i.e. they have started a learner with a provider; only 29% have been advertised on Apprenticeship vacancies.

All providers must ensure that all vacancies are advertised on Apprenticeship vacancies.  We will be working with providers who are failing to do this to ensure that they are fulfilling their contractual obligations, and referring to the Skills Funding Agency teams where this is not happening.

Apprenticeship Vacancy Management

Has your vacancy closed?

It is very important that any closed vacancies are completed as soon as an outcome is known.  This is essential for our data so we can keep a record of how successful your recruitment has been.  We are relying on you to manage your vacancies well, and we continue to offer you our support with this.  Candidates who apply for your Apprenticeship vacancies deserve to be advised in a timely manner whether they have been successful or not.

Unsuccessful recruitment?

If the recruitment has been unsuccessful you can extend the closing date of the vacancy to make it live again.  If you want to substantially change the vacancy detail you should clone the original, amend and resubmit it as a new vacancy.  The original vacancy must then be completed with an unsuccessful outcome

Have you filled your vacancy?

If the vacancy is filled but the status is closed, please ask yourself did the successful candidate apply through Apprenticeship Vacancies?  If so the name of the candidate can be moved into the successful part of the ladder and then the completed button can be ‘clicked’.

If the successful candidate did not apply through Apprenticeship Vacancies they are an ‘offline candidate’.  Please edit the number of offline candidates and then the completed button can be ‘clicked’.

If you need any support with posting or managing your vacancies please contact the AV team, Ellie, Alison and Rob by emailing them using se-avsupport@apprenticeships.gov.uk
