Apprenticeship Week 1st – 5th February

Apprenticeship Week kicks off on Monday and there is a fantastic array of activities occurring across the region. We start the week off with a bang with Business Breakfasts, and a retail campaign targeting independent retailers in the fashionable Lanes in Brighton, leading up to our all star event; past and present apprentices celebrating the history of Apprenticeships with Tony Robinson.

Providers across the region have also organised their own activities to support this years celebrations of all things Apprenticeships, but there are still a number of ways that you can get involved:

Business in the fast lane…

Car stickers have been distributed to each of the Provider Networks, and anyone who is anyone will be sporting one of our catchy slogans in their rear window. There are 4 to choose from: Good for Business, Get ahead, Move forward and Business in the fast lane, so pick yours up now, the NAS team will be looking out for them on their travels!

Read all about it!

The PRovider battle is on. The Column Centimetres Competition is in full swing and one lucky organisation will win £1000 to support their Apprenticeship programmes. All you have to do is rack up as many centimetres of press coverage as possible, fill out the entry form available from the link below, send us your cuttings and sit back and hope that all your savvy PR work pays off. This competition is running until the 26th February, so start pushing those success stories to your local press contacts now!

More information is available here, or alternatively, contact Laura Kennard.

Age 16 – 17 Grant for Employers

Guidance on the Age 16-17 grant has been sent round to providers, and many of you have been quick to take advantage of this incentive for your employers.

It is crucial that providers contact Malcolm Wright in the first instance when they have an employer who wishes to take up the grant, so that we can ensure they are eligible and funds are still available.

The Apprenticeship vacancies team have seen a huge increase in the number of employers and vacancies being added to the system since the launch of the grant, however providers must receive confirmation from NAS before they make any agreement with the employer, and before any vacancies can be advertised.

Once you have received confirmation, please send the details of the employers you need to link to your profiles to your vacancy coordinator, along with the authorisation codes. When advertising the vacancy, please ensure the vacancy title starts and finished with an asterix; for example *Exciting opportunity as a Business Admin Apprentice*. This allows us to filter which vacancies are part of the grant, so we can promote these to 16 and 17 year old candidates on the system, and to Connexions.

Guidance for providers and employers can be found on the Apprenticeships website:

Employers: http://www.apprenticeships.org.uk/Employers/AGE16and17.aspx

Providers: http://www.apprenticeships.org.uk/Partners/AGE-16and17.aspx

Guidance on references to age in adverts

We have received confirmation that providers are able to include the statement below in their vacancies:

You can state in an advert that you “welcome applications from applicants aged (a) 16 to 18 (b) 16 to 24 years old, but recruitment would then be on merit”.
