16-19 Funding Statement and capital funding 2012-13

16-19 Funding Statement

The YPLA has published the 16-19 Funding Statement for the funding of education and training in England for the 2012-13 financial year.

The Statement outlines indicative levels of funding to be invested in the 2012-13 financial year and the learner numbers and funding policies to be applied in the 2012/13 academic year by the YPLA.  It is of interest to local authorities, schools, Academies, colleges and other providers.

The Statement is reflective of four key themes:

  • supporting the drive to full participation;
  • rebalancing funding towards disadvantaged learners and those needing additional support;
  • protecting funding for learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities;
  • managing steps towards fairer funding.

You can see the Funding Statement, slides that you can use to brief your staff and a questions and answers document on the YPLA website.

The ministerial statement covering this announcement will be published on the Department for Education website.

Capital funding for 16-19 provision

More than £107 million of capital funding is being provided for 16-19 provision in 2012-13. The funding will be made available to meet maintenance and building needs of sixth form colleges and demographic pressures for new 16-19 places in schools, Academies and sixth form colleges.

  • £59 million will be allocated to the sixth form college Building Condition Improvement Fund (BCIF)
  • £44 million will be available to meet the need for additional places for 16-19 year olds where there are demographic pressures in schools, Academies and sixth form colleges.
  • All sixth form colleges will remain eligible for Devolved Formula Capital (DFC).

Further information is available at the Capital section of the YPLA website.

Information on capital funding for Academies is included in a letter from the Secretary of State for Education, which is being distributed separately.
